Work continues at site of train-semi collision

The Associated Press

MURDOCK, Minn. — Hazardous materials handlers continue to offload a volatile chemical from semi involved in a collision with a train in Swift County.

The crash near Murdock Tuesday caused anhydrous ammonia to leak from the semi tanker. Four people were taken to hospitals. Three were treated and released. The driver of the semi was flown to St. Cloud Hospital where he was most recently listed in critical, but stable condition.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe engine hit the tanker and pushed it off the road, causing a rupture and leak. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Highway 12 between Murdock and DeGraff remains closed.

Swift County sheriff's officials say students are back in the classroom at Murdock Elementary Wednesday.
