Virginia to test I-64 emergency lane reversal plan
The Associated Press
RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia's Interstate 64 emergency lane reversal plan will be tested later this month in the Richmond area.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management says the eastbound lanes will be closed on July 21 from about 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. between Exit 205 near Richmond and Exit 231 near Williamsburg.
The New Kent rest area on eastbound I-64 also will be closed, along with the on and off ramps at Exits 211, 214, 220 and 227.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 60.
During the exercise, inter-agency coordination and radio communications will be tested. The Virginia State Police, National Guard and the departments of Emergency Management and Transportation also will practice closing six traffic control gates.
