SKANEATELES, N.Y. — State police say a 24-year-old central New York man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated for the April crash that killed a man riding with him.

Troopers say Michael Stern of Elbridge has also been charged with traveling at an unsafe speed when the minivan he was driving collided with a milk tanker on a road in the Onondaga County town of Skaneateles (skin-ee-AT'-luhs), 15 miles southwest of Syracuse.

Police say 26-year-old Patrick Hallinan of Elbridge, a passenger in the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. Stern suffered serious head injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash.

It couldn't be determined if Stern has a lawyer.
