TIVERTON, R.I. — The FBI is joining the Rhode Island State Police in investigating an arson fire on the Sakonnet River Bridge just days before a new 10-cent toll went into effect.

State Turnpike and Bridge Authority Chairman David Darlington says no problems have been reported on first day of tolling Monday.

There are no toll booths. Drivers with E-ZPass transponders will pay automatically as they cross the bridge. Drivers without transponders are required to submit toll payments to the Turnpike and Bridge Authority.

The fire set early Saturday damaged electrical lines for the tolling equipment. State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell tells WPRO-AM that authorities will "pull out all the stops" to find the culprit.

More than 200 people protested the toll at the bridge Sunday.
