Women make up less than 6 percent of the professional driving force, yet many reach significant levels of safety achievement and experience.

The Women In Trucking Association will recognize these professionals and their accomplishments at the organization’s 5th annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel” March 29 during the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., March 27-29.

The “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel” is the only event of its kind to honor female professional drivers.

Speaking this year will be Rebecca Brewster, president/COO of the American TransportationResearch Institute.

Past keynote speakers include Anne Ferro, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; Deborah Hersman, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board; Joyce Brenny, president of Brenny Transportation and past chair of the Minnesota Trucking Association; and Sandra Ambrose-Clark, owner of ESJ Carrier Corp.

The event includes live music. Each female driver will receive a complimentary T-shirt along with a bag filled with items and offers from WIT corporate sponsors.

A favorite aspect of the event will be WIT’s signature chocolate fountain along with snacks and beverages.

Any female professional driver and immediate family members are invited and are not required to be a member of Women In Trucking. Members of Women In Trucking are also invited.

Companies can also be a part of the event by becoming a sponsor.

Interested sponsors should respond no later than Jan. 31 by e-mailing susan@womenintrucking.org or calling (262) 825-7837. Sponsorships are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
