ALEXANDRIA, Va. — New World Van Lines, headquartered in Chicago, has been chosen as the nation’s top independent moving company for 2013 by the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA).

The Independent Mover of the Year award, or “the Indy,” is presented to reflect AMSA’s and the industry’s commitment to outstanding performance among independent movers.  Such performance may be demonstrated through innovative business methods and practices, community involvement, customer service practices, employee relations, and operations that address a current and compelling social or economic issue, according to AMSA President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr.

The recipient is selected by a panel of industry experts.

In 1919, Economy Moving & Transfer Company was founded by Michael Marx.  In 1955, his son Edward purchased the company, and after industry deregulation in 1982, formed New World Van Lines.  Today, New World has 15 locations across the United States, with international offices in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and Shanghai, China, providing, interstate, international and local moves to corporate accounts, relocation management companies and the federal government.

“Being recognized as the AMSA Independent Mover of the Year is a very high honor for our company. It is an exceptional result from the dedication and combined efforts of each and every New World employee, doing what it takes, day in and day out, to care for the needs of the relocating families we serve,” said David Marx, president of New World Van Lines and New World International.  “We know that there are many companies in our industry deserving of this award, making our choice as this year’s recipient all the more esteemed.”

“New World has set high standards and has always been an innovator in moving solutions,” said AMSA President and CEO Linda Bauer Darr. “Congratulations to David Marx and his entire team.”

The company also participates in AMSA’s ProMover program, which helps consumers easily identify a quality, professional mover.

All awards will be presented during AMSA’s 95th Annual Education Conference & Expo from Feb. 9-12 in San Diego.
