Average diesel price jumps 3.1 cents to $3.904

The Gulf Coast at one-tenth of one cent and the Rocky Mountain states at three-tenths of one cent saw the smallest increases.

WASHINGTON — The average on-highway price of a gallon of diesel jumped 3.1 cents to $390.3 for the week ending Jan.27, the third time the price has topped the $3.90 mark since the last week in September, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.

The price increased in every section of the country with the largest increases coming in the Central Atlantic states at 8.4 cents and the New England states at 5.3 cents.

The Gulf Coast at one-tenth of one cent and the Rocky Mountain states at three-tenths of one cent saw the smallest increases.

Diesel prices have fluctuated between $3.919 (the last week in September) and $3.822 (the week ending Nov. 18) during the past four months.

Despite the increase, the price for the week ending Jan. 27 was 2.3 cents lower than the same time last year.
