Class 8 truck sales soar 17.9 percent in March

Volvo sales jumped 68.9 percent over February (2,500 vs. 1,480) and Mack sales jumped 50.1 percent (1,345 vs. 896).

Class 8 new truck sales soared 17.9 percent in March with total sales of 16,452 compared with 13,949 for February, according to data provided by Ward’s Automotive.

The Volvo and Mack nameplates scored the largest increase.

Volvo sales jumped 68.9 percent over February (2,500 vs. 1,480) and Mack sales jumped 50.1 percent (1,345 vs. 896).

Only Freightliner and Western Star saw a decline in sales in February with Freightliner, the consistent market share leader, dropping 2.5 percent with March sales of 5,303.

Year-over-year, 2014 sales are up 14.8 percent.

Freightliner’s market share for March was 32.2 percent, down from 39 percent in February. The Daimler brand has a 36.1 percent market share year-to-date, down from 42.1 percent for the same period last year.
