U.S. 90 frontage roads in Louisiana complete

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced completion Friday of a $5.8 million project to build front roads along a 2.97-mile section of the future Interstate 49 South, from Darnall Road to La. Highway 85.

NEW IBERIA, La. — Construction of a three-mile section of frontage roads along U.S. Highway 90 in Iberia Parish is complete.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced completion Friday of a $5.8 million project to build front roads along a 2.97-mile section of the future Interstate 49 South, from Darnall Road to La. Highway 85.

The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1iDI7OT ) work on the frontage road began in August 2012. Gilchrist Construction was awarded the contract.

Construction of the frontage roads is a preliminary step in the construction of I-49 between Lafayette and New Orleans.

DOTD says about $210 million has been dedicated to I-49 South.

The I-49 South corridor includes about 160 miles of roadway. Of that, about 100 miles have been completed or are under construction.
