AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — BorgWarner's improved Cool Logic variable speed fan drives are now standard equipment on MACK Granite, Titan and Pinnacle model series heavy-duty commercial diesel trucks.

Based on 4 million miles of fleet testing, Cool Logic fan drives improve fuel economy up to 3 percent depending on route terrain, truck load and duty cycle compared with traditional fan drives, according to Dan CasaSanta, president and general manager of BorgWarner Thermal Systems.

"Proven fuel economy, low noise and reduced maintenance make BorgWarner’s Cool Logic fan drives a smart solution for truck fleet owners,” CasaSanta said. "Cool Logic fan drives have been offered as an option since their introduction in 2007. We are pleased that Mack is now selecting our premium cooling technology as standard equipment on all Granite, Titan and Pinnacle model trucks."

Responding to signals from the engine control module thousands of times per minute, Cool Logic fan drives electronically vary fan speed to provide consistent, precise temperature control that automatically adjusts to load and road grades, CasaSanta said.

“The highly reliable and responsive wet-friction clutch design reduces engine drag, delivering more horsepower and greater fuel economy compared with traditional on/off or two-speed clutch systems,” he said. “The drives’ actuation logic system delivers quiet operation to increase cabin comfort and reduce driver fatigue. In addition to fuel savings, Cool Logic fan drives extend the life of the entire cooling system, including the radiator and charge air cooler, and decrease wear on serpentine belt components.
