Daimler Trucks North America has announced that it’s recalling certain model year 2012 Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 4900 vehicles manufactured from Dec. 22, 2011, through Feb. 23 of this year because of possibly defective seats.
The seats are certain National Seat brands and the potential number affected is 8,747.
DTNA recalled the vehicles because certain National Seat brand driver’s seats may have bases with out of spec’ welds that could allow the seats to unexpectedly “buckle,” a DTNA notice said.
And, they said an unexpected seat movement could affect the vehicle’s control and visibility, “increasing the risk of a crash.”
The OEM is notifying owners that affected vehicles will install replacement components free of charge. The recall is to begin this month. Owners may contact DTNA at (800) 547-0712. The recall number is FL-624.
Truck customers may also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 or (800) 424-9153 or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
