ORLANDO, Fla. — HELP Inc., a non-profit provider of PrePass, a truck weigh station bypass system, introduced an electronic logging device (ELD) application and mobile bypass application during the American Truck Associations Management Conference and Exhibition here.
PrePass ELD was developed to address carriers’ requests for a simple and economical way to comply with the federally mandated ELD requirement taking effect December 18, 2017, according to HELP President & CEO Karen Rasmussen
The ELD is a simple solution to monitor hours-of-service, recording only the data required by law.
It operates as a bring-your-own device (BYOD) app available in both Android and iOS formats and takes seconds to install. Users will be able to download the app to any tablet or smartphone, tether it with an OBDII device plugged into the truck’s diagnostic port, and begin recording truck movement and driver hours.
“This ELD is a cost-effective solution for trucking operations looking for an easy way to comply with the ELD mandate,” Rasmussen said. “And unlike many other providers just now entering the ELD market, carriers using PrePass ELD can be assured they are getting a high-quality service from a trusted name that’s been in trucking technology for more than two decades.”
While customers do not have to subscribe to other PrePass services in order to use the ELD, they will, however, benefit from the same award-winning customer service PrePass customers have come to expect, Rasmussen said.
The PrePass ELD also offers driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR), central web-based reporting and simple OBDII wireless connection via Bluetooth.
The cost of the PrePass ELD app is $14.99 per month per license and is reduced to $12.99 per month when bundled with the PrePass weigh station bypass service. Authorization for weigh station bypass is based on a carrier’s inspection selection system (ISS) score and proof of current credentials.
Rasmussen said PrePass is also expanding its weigh station bypass service with MOTION.
The MOTION app works in addition to HELP’s existing PrePass transponder-based service established nearly 25 years ago.
With the addition of PrePass MOTION, more safe commercial vehicles than ever — from the largest fleets to owner-operators — will have the opportunity to bypass facilities at highway speeds, saving them time and money, thanks to proprietary state-of-the-art geolocation and geo-fencing technology, she said.
According Rasmussen, while the PrePass transponder-based bypass system remains the most accurate way to transmit a truck’s credentials to inspection facilities, PrePass MOTION was developed to expand PrePass’ weigh station bypass service to more locations and states.
“PrePass MOTION offers additional opportunities to bypass sites that do not have PrePass infrastructure,” Rasmussen said.
MOTION will be included with the PrePass weigh station bypass service offered at no additional charge to existing customers. Customers may use MOTION as a stand-alone application or pair it with the PrePass transponder for maximum bypass opportunities.
PrePass MOTION is a native application that will be available in late 2017 for both Android and iOS devices via the PrePass web site and app stores. The app includes a complete set of features that can be used on any current tablet without proprietary hardware.
The introduction of the ELD and MOTION apps follows the debut last month of INFORM Tolling, which provides data analytics so customers can see where truck tolls are being assessed and confirm they are getting the best toll rates possible. INFORM Tolling is part of the PrePass INFORM Suite, which also includes INFORM Safety.
“All of our new PrePass service introductions this past year are directly linked to the mission of HELP Inc. to improve safety and efficiency in the trucking industry, which benefits not only drivers and companies but the general public as well,” Rasmussen said.
