October Class 8 sales down 29.3 from 2015, down 21.9 for the year

October U.S. Class 8 truck sales dropped 29.3 percent from the same month last year, WardsAuto reported November 10, to a total of 13,618. The October total was 9 percent below the month before. Freightliner led all OEMs with 4,371 units sold, or 32.1 percent share, a 14.8 percent drop from last year.

International followed with 2,188, 16.1 percent, up 1.5 percent from 2015. Kenworth was third with 2,108, 15.5 percent, down 27.8 percent from 2015. Fourth was Peterbilt at 2,069 or 15.2 percent, down 6.5 percent from last year. Next was Volvo, 1,414, 10.4 percent share, down 39 percent from 2015.

Mack finished with 1,142, 8.4 percent, down 6.4 percent. Finally, Western Star sold 323 units for a 2.4 percent share, down 17.6 percent from last year. Year-to-date, Freightliner leads with 62,600, followed by Kenworth at 24,430, then Peterbilt, 22,349; International, 18,685; Volvo, 16,738; Mack, 14,154 and Western Star, 4,025. Year-to-date sales decreased 21.9 percent to 163,091.
