WESTLAKE, Ohio— TravelCenters of America has announced it has teamed up with actor John Ratzenberger, formerly of Cheers, Toy Story I & II and Made In America fame, to create a series of short videos for its Social Media strategy to inform viewers of the uniqueness of TravelCenters of America (TA) and Petro Stopping Centers sites and their customers.
The first video premiered at the Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville, Ky., the largest truck driver show in the country.
Ratzenberger himself was on hand for the premiere.
The series of videos involve Ratzenberger as a "man on the highway" who visits various TA and Petro locations, informs viewers of the various amenities and services offered, but also meets with customers and employees for their unique perspectives of the highway and the passion for what they do.
"John is not your typical Hollywood type. He came from very humble roots and appreciates the hard work of our truck driving customer and our employees who serve them," Tom O'Brien, managing director, president and CEO of TravelCenters of America, said. "He brings energy, wit and insight that we hope will help inform viewers across the country that we are an excellent choice for stopping while on the interstate and inform the general public about what truck stops and truckers are all about. We wish to try to contribute a grass-roots education effort to foster the respect and admiration we have for the American trucker to others. By employing these videos on our Web site, Facebook pages and YouTube links, we can spread the word via today's hottest communication venues."
"I was drawn to TA and Petro because they have more amenities and services than most anyone else who is positioned on the interstate," Ratzenberger said. "Certainly they have more than chains who offer fuel and little else. TA and Petro serve one of the hardest-working professionals known — the professional truck driver. Having come from a family with trucking roots — my father drove truck — I respect what they do for all customers and welcome the chance to share that story to viewers across the country."
Ratzenberger is probably best known for his role as Cliff Clavin, a mailman who frequented the famous bar.
The parties have agreed to a first series of three 6-8 minute video vignettes. The production is being handled by Magnetic North Films of St. Louis.
Target Media Partners Trucking Division, publishers of The Trucker as well as eight national monthly trucking employment magazines, recently announced it had agreed to terms to renew its long-standing exclusive distribution agreement in all TA locations. In addition, beginning June 2010 Target Media Partners Trucking Division will extend its exclusive distribution agreement to all Petro Stopping Centers.
