Doreen’s Story

“I miss my sister so much it is killing me.  It has been five years and we still don’t know where she is,” said Doreen Marquez’s youngest sister.

Doreen Marquez has been missing for five long years. Every year in AlbuquerqueN.M., there are over 125 adults reported missing. From 2001 to 2004, 16 young women are still missing. Doreen Marquez was a daughter, a sister, cousin, niece, auntie and most importantly; a beloved mother. It has been five long years since we have seen Doreen.

If you are reading and wondering why this young woman has been missing so long yet not many people have heard Doreen’s story, it is because, unfortunately, Doreen’s family lacks the financial resources that other families you might have watched on the news or read about have to assist in the search.  Just because Doreen comes from a less fortunate family does not mean that she is missed any less.

Immediately following Doreen’s disappearance, her youngest sister notified the police and even put out missing fliers in Albuquerque.  Doreen’s youngest sister does not own a car, and sometimes has no telephone with which to communicate with law enforcement as well as friends and other family members willing to help out.

Doreen’s other sister, who lives in Roswell, quickly went to the Roswell Police Department to seek help only to be told that she would need to go to Albuquerque, which is several hours away.  Feeling as if law enforcement did not care about her sister who was a Hispanic female from a poor family, her sister was extremely saddened, however she refused to give up hope and prays everyday that there will be a miracle.

Recently, Doreen’s younger sister came into contact with a circle of Doreen’s friends who were unaware as to the status of Doreen’s case, other than she has still not been found. In talking to each other and finally gaining contact with all of Doreen’s family and friends, they have been able to put more of the pieces together in an attempt to move the search forward.  Doreen’s family and friends are determined that no stone should be left unturned and are requesting your help in getting this information out there.

Doreen Marquez would be 32 years old right now. Doreen is Hispanic, she is 5 feet 3 inches and weighed 130 pounds. She has brown eyes and long naturally curly hair, she has an olive complexion and had a deck of cards tattoo on her right ankle of the Queen of hearts.  Doreen Marquez was known to frequent the truck stops around the Menaul and University area of Albuquerque as well as other truck stops in Albuquerque.

If Doreen’s family and friends could say anything to her it would be that they love her unconditionally.  The father of Doreen’s daughter loves Doreen and misses her very much he would do anything to have them back as a family again.

If anyone has any information please call Ida Lopez at the Albuquerque Missing persons division at 505-924-6093.
