Price of diesel jumps 4.2 cents per gallon
The average on-highway price of a gallon of diesel jumped another 4.2 cents for the week of June 13, the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy report.
For the week of June 13, the average price nationwide was $2.276 per gallon compared with $2.234 last week.
The increase comes in the wake of the world price of oil rising 51 cents to $54.10 per barrel after prices dipped early Monday as OPEC kingpin Saudi Arabia maintained that the oil cartel should increase its crude production ceiling.
Ministers from the OPEC countries were scheduled to meet in Vienna on June 15 to plot a production strategy for the second half of the year.
The largest regional increase in the cost of diesl was in the Midwest where it was up 5 cents to $2.248.
The Central Atlantic states, which are reported as part of the East Coast region, rose 5.6 cents to $2.399.
