National Carriers hikes independents' pay

LIBERAL, Kan. — National Carriers Inc. has implemented increases in compensation for its independent contractors in the temperature-controlled 48 state and regional fleets.

The company said it now is paying 88 cents per mile for its 48-state mileage contract and 90 cents per mile for its regional mileage contract.

Included in the total compensation is incentive pay for those drivers who are safe and who comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, the company stated in a news release.

“We are pleased to offer this increase to our contractors, particularly in view of the increased expenses faced by all truck drivers in today’s marketplace,” Richard Rees, NCI president, said.  “We are grateful to these men and women for their loyalty to their profession and to the company.”

Rees said NCI business demand remains strong, and the company desires to attract additional operators with specific performance records and work histories. He said the company had been an owner-operator fleet since inception and would continue to recruit owner-operators, lease purchase candidates and fleet drivers in order to satisfy the growth plans of the company.

NCI provides service in temperature controlled truckload operations, the transportation of livestock, logistics, expedited/guaranteed product delivery service, tractor lease financing and general tractor and trailer maintenance. The company operates in the 48 states and portions of Canada.
