In an unprecedented move, the Best-of-Show winner of the 2013 Shell SuperRigs competition held in Tomah, Wis. has been disqualified. According to a press release from Chris Guerrero, Global Brand Manager for Shell Rotella, the decision was made after the eligibility verification process turned up evidence that the winning entry, owned by Jonathan Eilen of Hampton, Min., did not meet the contest eligibility requirements for a working truck and trailer.
The orange-and-white 2012 Peterbilt 389, paired with a 2008 Polar Quest tank trailer and owned by William Rethwisch of Tomah, Wis. becomes the new Best-of-Show winner. Rethwisch was awarded $10,000 from Shell Rotella and an additional $5,000 from MAC Trailer for winning the top spot. The Rethwisch entry also garnered a case of Rotella oil, and an additional case was awarded for being chose for Best Interior.
Jeremy Hassevoort’s 1986 Peterbilt with matching 2001 Utility 3000R refrigerated trailer becomes the first runner-up, taking prizes of $4,000 from Shell Rotella, $3,000 from MAC Trailer, and a case of Rotella oil. The Hassevoort entry also took honors for Best Chrome, earning another case of Rotella oil. Hassevoort is from Hamilton, Mich.
Moving to second runner-up, Best-of-Show is the 2013 Peterbilt 389 owned by Kevin Pacavis of Richfield, Wis., who was awarded $2,000 from Shell Rotella and $2,000 from MAC Trailer, plus a case of Shell Rotella oil. The blue and orange Pacavis entry, paired with a matching flatbed trailer with retractable tarp, also took first place in the Tractor Trailer division, winning an additional $1,500 and a case of Rotella from Shell.
“We’re thankful to all of the contestants who competed this year in the 31st annual Shell SuperRigs competition in Tomah,” Guerrero said in the release, “and we want to congratulate this year’s final winners in the competition. We look forward to continuing to grow this event as we celebrate and recognize some of the hardest working and best looking trucks on the road.”
