WALCOTT, Iowa — Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale Co. have awarded the first round of grants to local organizations from the recently established Iowa 80/CAT Scale Go Iowa Fund Grant Program.
Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale established the fund through the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend (CFGRB).
The grant program provides employees and other individuals a structure to request money to support good causes, organizations or philanthropies they are involved with.
“We want our employees to be empowered in helping us decide how we should support our community”, Delia Moon Meier, senior vice president, said. “This grant program does just that. We are proud to be able to help organizations that our employees are passionate about.”
The following grants were awarded on June 17 for applications received for the June 2014 grant cycle:
Trucker Buddy International, $1,500; Durant Community Schools Foundation, $1,434.00; National Alliance on Mental Illness,$1,000; Walcott American Legion Post, $1,000; Hand in Hand, $750; Café on Vine, $616; and Genesis Foundation, $600.
The Iowa 80/CAT Scale Go Iowa Fund can only make grants that benefit Iowa-based charities, Iowa activities or organizations that have a presence in Iowa.
Grants are awarded twice per year by a committee of Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale employees.
