BILLINGS, Mont. — A semi-trailer and tank manufacturer northeast of Billings has closed its doors, putting 33 people out of work.
The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/12g0iW3 ) Beall Trailers in Lockwood shut down on Thursday after more than 65 years in the area.
The Portland, Ore.-based company started a Billings branch in 1945. The company manufactured trailers for semi-trucks and tanks used primarily to haul petroleum products.
Last fall, Beall Corp., filed for bankruptcy protection and tried to sell the whole company, which operates in eight western states. When that fell through, Beall was sold off in pieces. The Lockwood plant did not find a buyer, but an Indiana company did buy the equipment.
The Gazette reports a few employees contacted after the plant closed declined to comment.
