PORT ALLEN, La. – A semi truck driver was killed on Thursday evening in a one-vehicle crash in Louisiana.
According to a release issued by the Louisiana State Police (LSP), shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, LSP began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 east near milepost 149 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Eric Sparks of Denham Springs.
LSP says its preliminary investigation revealed that Sparks was driving a 2024 Freightliner truck east on Interstate 10 near mile marker 149, in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle exited the left side of the roadway and entered the median. The Freightliner then traveled across the westbound lanes before coming to rest in a ditch on the north side of the interstate.
Sparks was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
