BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Missouri trucker is facing felony charges after being found with guns at the Canadian border.

According to a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) its officers at the Buffalo port of entry arrested a Missouri man and seized two firearms from a commercial vehicle at the Peace Bridge border crossing on March 24.

CBP officers encountered a 55-year-old male U.S. citizen who inadvertently followed GPS into Canada and was returned to the U.S. by Canadian Border Services Agency. He declared two firearms to CBSA, which CBSA detained and returned to CBP officers at the Peace Bridge.

CBP officers performed additional checks of the driver and discovered that he was a convicted felon and sex offender living in Missouri. As a convicted felon, he unlawfully possessed the two firearms, a Charter Arms .38 Special and an FIE .22-caliber pistol.

“The safety and security of our ports and communities is a top priority,” said Acting Port Director Sharon Swiatek. “Our CBP officers continue to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to enforcing the law and preventing prior felons from possessing dangerous weapons.”

CBP officers arrested the driver and turned him and the firearms over to the Buffalo Police Department to face a felony charge for criminal possession of a weapon.
