LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. — The recent weather conditions in south Louisiana have prompted an emergency highway closure.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) via the Louisiana State Police announced an emergency closure of Interstate 49 Southbound in Lafayette Parish from Exit 7 (LA 182) to Exit 4 (Carencro) due to deteriorating roadway conditions caused by heavy rainfall impacting the construction zone.
“Motorists are urged to adjust travel plans and use an alternate route,” the release stated.
Multiple outlets reported that in the last week, southern Louisiana was inundated with as much as 8 inches of rain.
New Orleans Meteorologist Zach Fradella posted on his social media that more heavy rain was in store for the area on Monday.
