OPELOUSAS, La. – One person is dead after a crash in Louisiana involving an 18-wheeler.
The crash occurred Friday afternoon shortly after 3:00 p.m., according to a Louisiana State Police (LSP) press release.
The agency stated it began investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 190 near Jennings Road. The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Courtney Hodge of Texas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was traveling west on LA-190 approaching Jennings Road. At the same time, a 2025 Kia K4 was traveling west on LA-190 behind the CMV. The CMV began to slow as it was approaching a crossover. For unknown reasons, the Kia failed to slow and rear-ended the CMV.
Hodge, who was not properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Hodge and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
