Agent Studio allows fleets to automate reporting, monitor compliance risks and provide drivers with real-time information.
SAN FRANCISCO — From monitoring hours-of-service (HOS) compliance to helping drivers navigate unfamiliar delivery locations, artificial intelligence (AI) is taking on new responsibilities in trucking operations.
Fleet technology provider Samsara has expanded access to Samsara Agent Studio, a platform that allows trucking companies and other fleet operators to create customized AI assistants without writing computer code.
First introduced in June, the platform is now available to all Samsara customers. It is designed to help fleets automate routine administrative tasks, identify potential operational problems and provide drivers with information through voice and chat interactions.
According to Samsara, use of its AI agents has increased sevenfold since June 2026 as customers expand applications beyond basic reporting to include fuel efficiency analysis, compliance monitoring and driver assistance.
The company’s AI agents use operational data from connected vehicles, equipment and other systems, including vehicle location, diagnostics and driver activity, to identify situations that may require attention.
Unlike conventional AI assistants that generally wait for users to enter questions or instructions, these agents can be configured to respond to specific events or operating conditions.
“AI is quickly adopted when it’s useful, and in physical operations that means an agent has to understand the operation and meet people where the work happens,” said Johan Land, chief product officer at Samsara. “In the back office that might happen through chat. On the road, it happens through a phone call. That is what brings an agent to life in the real world.”
From paperwork to proactive monitoring
Samsara says Agent Studio can help fleet operators automate routine administrative work while identifying potential problems before they disrupt operations.
For trucking companies, applications include compiling inspection and compliance reports, monitoring available driving hours, identifying trips with missing driver information and analyzing vehicle idling to identify opportunities to reduce fuel consumption.
The platform can also use information about scheduled stops, remaining driving time and shift hours to flag potential HOS violations before they occur, allowing fleet managers to review the situation and take appropriate action.
Rather than requiring managers to manually review multiple reports or systems, the technology is designed to identify relevant information and bring potential issues to their attention.
The agents can also draw on company-specific policies and procedures, allowing fleet operators to tailor responses and automated tasks to their own operations.
Voice technology brings AI into the cab

One of Agent Studio’s features is the ability to create AI agents that communicate with drivers by voice, potentially providing assistance when dispatchers or other support personnel are unavailable.
For example, when a truck enters a designated geographic area, known as a geofence, around a distribution center, an AI agent could automatically contact the driver with site-specific instructions.
Those instructions might include which entrance to use, where to park, the facility’s speed limit and any required safety equipment.
Drivers could also ask follow-up questions, with the agent drawing answers from company policies and available operational data.
After the truck leaves the location, the system could collect information about the visit. Fleet managers could then analyze that information to identify recurring delays or facilities with unusually long dwell times.
Samsara reports that voice interactions have become increasingly popular among customers using its AI agents.
According to the company, voice interactions surpassed chat interactions within four weeks of the voice feature’s launch and have remained the more frequently used option.
Samsara also reports that approximately 75% of organizations using voice agents have increased their weekly usage since deployment, with more than half of them at least doubling their usage.
Connecting fleet data with everyday decisions
Agent Studio is part of Samsara’s broader fleet management technology platform, which collects and analyzes information from connected vehicles, equipment and other operational systems.
The company says its systems collect more than 30 trillion data points annually, including vehicle location, diagnostics, video and other operational information.
Samsara’s AI offerings include:
- Samsara Assistant: A dashboard-based tool that allows fleet personnel to ask questions about operational data and access AI assistance with safety, maintenance and compliance tasks.
- Agent Studio: A platform for creating customized AI assistants that communicate through chat or voice and perform tasks based on a company’s operational needs.
- Samsara MCP: A recently introduced capability that allows authorized users to access Samsara operational data through other AI tools, including ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot, subject to existing customer permissions.
The tools are designed to help fleet managers and other personnel access information and respond to operational issues without manually reviewing multiple reports or switching between systems.
“Every day, our customers make thousands of decisions that determine whether people get home safely, deliveries arrive on time and essential services keep running,” said Brendan O’Driscoll, vice president of platform at Samsara. “Our ambition is to make AI part of how that work gets done — anticipating what needs to happen and coordinating the people, equipment and systems to act. That’s the future we’re building at Samsara.”
Agent Studio is now available to all Samsara customers. Additional information and a product demonstration are available on the Samsara website.
