An enforcement operation in Indiana which focused on oversized loads on Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) was recently conducted and found 11 violations.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) stated in a news release that it conducted a focused enforcement patrol targeting commercial motor vehicles transporting oversized loads in violation of permit provisions.
“The patrol involved Indiana State Police troopers and motor carrier inspectors working together to ensure commercial motor vehicles transporting oversized loads comply with applicable state laws, safety regulations, and permit requirements,” ISP stated. “Depending on the dimensions and weight of an oversized load, permits may include specific restrictions on the hours a vehicle is allowed to travel. Certain permits limit the movement to daylight hours only to help ensure the safety of the motoring public and reduce risks associated with transporting oversized loads. Troopers specifically looked for trucks operating outside the authorized hours, violating the permit provisions.”
During the focused patrol, ISP said troopers and motor carrier inspectors conducted 11 Level II and Level III commercial motor vehicle inspections in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) inspection procedures.
The enforcement effort resulted in the following:
- 11 Citations issued
- 24 violations documented on commercial motor vehicle inspection reports
- 11 oversize load permits revoked
“The Indiana State Police would like to remind motorists to remain alert around commercial vehicles transporting oversized loads and to report to the Indiana State Police any operations transporting oversized loads before daylight hours,” ISP added.
