After the crash, Burns exited his vehicle to check on the occupants of the Buick. While he was outside the semi, a 2014 Chevrolet driven by Kobe Brady, 28, of Fort Wayne, collided with the disabled vehicles and struck Burns.

Burns was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Love and her passenger, Jermal Hatten, 36, of Camby, along with three juvenile passengers, were also transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries or as a precautionary measure for medical evaluation.
