MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ind. — Heavy rains in Indiana on Wednesday would have had a tragic story attached if not for the efforts of a group of rescue firefighters.
Shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the Madison Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 13000 block of North Mann Road for a water rescue.
First-arriving units found a vehicle in the water with one occupant still inside. The driver was able to return to land without assistance from firefighters.
But while crews were clearing the scene, they heard a baby deer being carried downstream in the rapidly rising water.
Captain Joe Sinclair entered the water and rescued the deer, bringing it safely back to shore. Medics on scene provided aid until the deer could be transferred to a local animal rescue.
