JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. — A police pursuit ended when the driver of the car being pursued crashed with a commercial vehicle causing a fatality.
Police say the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 10:44 a.m.
That is when the New York State Police (NYSP) says it responded to the report of a head-on collision on State Route 30A in Johnstown.
NYSP said it’s investigation determined that a southbound passenger vehicle that was actively involved in a pursuit with the Johnstown Police Department entered the northbound lane and struck a northbound commercial vehicle.
The driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle was uninjured.
The Johnstown Police Department has requested that the New York State Police, which were not involved in the pursuit, lead the investigation.
State Route 30A was closed in both directions between Glebe Street and South Melcher for collision reconstruction, according to an NYSP press release.
