GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — Law enforcement officials recovered some stolen cargo recently — a $250,000 shipment of snow crabs overnight Saturday morning.

According to a media release from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), and posted to its Facebook page, deputies recently received information regarding a stolen cargo shipment valued at over $250,000 being transported in a tractor-trailer in the area.

According to the release, deputies quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 8800 block of Interstate 10 westbound.

“Following a thorough investigation, the stolen cargo was positively identified and successfully recovered,” GCSO stated. “This morning, our Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) met with the owners of the cargo — a shipment of snow crabs — to facilitate its return.”

GCSO identified two suspects that were taken into custody as Rafael Velez, Leonardo Lara. GCSO did not release the suspects’ ages or points of origin.

Both were arrested and booked on a first-degree felony charge of Theft of Cargo greater than $200,000.

“The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the citizens and businesses of our community,” GCSO stated.
