New York police respond to big rig fire on Thruway

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — New York State Police (NYSP) says it has responded to a tractor trailer fire on the Thruway southbound in the village of South Nyack, Rockland County, just before the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

Authorites closed the right lane of the roadway which caused significant traffic delays on Thursday morning. NYSP urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.

NYSP stated in a press release that its investigation revealed that a Costco tractor trailer initially experienced a brake fire that resulted in the vehicle becoming fully engulfed. The NYSP further stated that no injuries are reported.
