Two people were injured in a crash involving five vehicles including a semi truck on Thursday night.

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. — Two people were injured in a crash involving five vehicles including a semi truck on Thursday night.

A crash summary from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) stated that the crash occurred on Interstate 70 going west at mile-marker 121 around 9:35 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say the crash occurred when four vehicles were stopped in the right lane on I-70 within a construction zone.

MSHP’s reports stated that traffic was heavily congested due to a lane closure, and the driver of a 2026 Peterbilt 589, a 35-year-old male from Brunceton, Mo., “approached from the rear and failed to properly observe the slow traffic ahead.”

The semi struck the rear of a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser, driven by a 32-year-old man from Cape Girardeau, Mo.. It propelled the FJ Cruiser into the back of a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 50-year-old Columbia, Mo. man, which caused the pickup truck to hit a 2026 Mercedes Sprinter, driven by a 43-year-old Cooper City, Fla. man, subsequently striking a 2025 Honda CRV which a 64-year-old woman from Lexington, Kentucky operated.

The semi, along with the FJ Cruiser and pickup truck, traveled off the right side of the road into the ditch. The other two vehicles, came to controlled stops on the right shoulder.

The pickup driver and the woman reportedly suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
