Indiana State Police are investigating a crash involving an 18-wheeler.

DECATUR, Ind. – One person was injured in an Indiana crash on Thursday morning that involved an 18-wheeler.

The Indiana State Police (ISP) stated in a release that it is investigating a two-vehicle crash between a semi-truck and a passenger car that happened at the intersection of US 27 (North 13th St.) and Winchester Rd. in Decatur just before 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say the investigation shows a 2012 Mini Cooper was driving north on US 27 approaching Winchester Rd. when it slowed to a stop in the right lane. At the time, emergency vehicles with red and blue lights were stopped on Winchester Rd. just west of US 27 to slow southbound traffic. As the Mini Cooper sat in the right lane stopped, a 2024 Peterbilt tractor pulling a semi-trailer also driving northbound ran into the back of the Mini Cooper.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, Jason Ward, 49, of Ohio City, Ohio, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital for care. The driver of the Peterbilt, Jacob Keiffer, 30, of Hartford City, Indiana, was not injured in the crash.
