JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — A trucker is in serious condition after a crash in Missouri early Thursday morning.
According to a crash summary from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), a 2019 Hyundai Accent and a 2012 Frieghtliner semi truck were both traveling eastbound on Interstate 44, near the 26-mile marker in Jasper County.
The semi rear-ended the Hyundai causing both vehicles to veer to the right and off the highway, according to reports.
The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
According to KOAM television news out of Pittsburgh, Kansas, the driver of the car was traveling slowly, at around 40 miles per hour, because the car was driving on a spare tire “donut” when it was struck by the semi truck.
The driver of the freighliner, a 41-year-old from Oklahoma City, Okla. was seriously injured according to MSHP.
According to KOAM’s report, a tree impaled the cab of the semi, causing the driver’s injuries.
