Georgia works 14 CMV crashes, makes more than 300 DUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend
Georgia law enforcement made more than 300 DUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend.

According to final numbers issued by the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS), law enforcement agencies reportedly made 329 DUI arrests over the Memorial Day weekend.

Of those DUIs, 31 were involved in crashes.

Crash data also shows that 12 people were killed on Georgia’s roads in 31 total crashes, 14 of which involved Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV). There were 153 people reportedly injured in 298 total crashes.

Law enforcement issued 708 citations for distracted driving, 911 seatbelt citations,

“Throughout the holiday period, law enforcement responded to crashes, assisted motorists, removed impaired drivers from the roads, and aimed at keeping everyone safe as they traveled,” DPS stated in its release. “While enforcement numbers tell part of the story, the goal is always education, prevention, and getting everyone home safely. Every impaired driver arrested, distracted driver stopped, and seatbelt violation addressed is an opportunity to prevent a life-changing crash.”

The reporting period began Friday evening and ended at midnight Monday night.
