Weather in Texas was a bit of an obstacle for drivers over the weekend, and may continue this week.
A flood watch continues for central and southern Texas through much of Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi through Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, depending on location. Torrential rainfall rates of 2″ to 4″ per hour are possible.
Houston, according to ABC, is under a level 3/4 moderate risk for excessive rainfall and flash flooding for four days in a row — Monday through Thursday. Significant flood events are possible each day.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported on its social media that multiple vehicles were stranded in floodwaters on southbound Interstate 35 between mile markers 330 and 327, between Waco and Hewitt, and that first responders are conducting rescue operations. Northbound lanes remained open.
Motorists were advised to expect significant delays. Several stranded vehicles had to be removed from the roadway once conditions allow crews to do so safely.
Rain is expected in those parts of Texas to continue througout the week.
“If you can’t see the road, don’t be part of the rescue,” DPS stated. “Water wins — every time.”
