Diesel prices continue to climb.
In its weekly report, the US Energy Information Administration published that national diesel prices rose again from $3.809 last week to $3.897.
That is nearly a nine-cent jump on average nationally for a gallon of diesel.
Diesel is more than 26 cents per gallon higher than last year on a national level.
Three reporting regions jumped more than 10 cents per gallon.
The largest increase came from the New England region which rose by more than 11 cents per gallon from $4.201 to $4.314.
The Lower Atlantic Region is reporting an increase by exactly 10 cents per gallon from $3.708 to $3.808 while the Gulf Coast Region’s price rose from $3.489 to $3.598.
The Midwest Region’s rise from $3.798 to $3.888 underscores its year-over-year skyrocket by more than 33 cents per gallon which is the largest since last year of all of the reporting regions.
Oil prices rose sharply when market trading began Sunday, as U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and retaliatory strikes against Israel and U.S. military installations around the Gulf sent disruptions through the global energy supply chain, according to an Associated Press report.
Traders were betting the supply of oil from Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East would slow or grind to a halt. Attacks throughout the region, including on two vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf, have restricted countries’ ability to export oil to the rest of the world. Prolonged attacks would likely result in higher prices for crude oil and gasoline, according to energy experts.
