FORT WAYNE, Ind. – High winds and weather is not just wreaking havoc in the west. It is happening in Indiana as well.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) in Fort Wayne Post issued a press release informing drivers of multiple crash scenes throughout the district caused by extremely high winds moving through the area.
ISP reports “several semi tractor‑trailers have been blown over at various locations, resulting in slowed or restricted traffic in those affected zones,” ISP’s release stated.
The agency reported slow downs at I69 south of Fort Wayne in Huntington County near the 289MM just north of Markle as well as on US30 in Allen County near the Ohio state line, in addition to US33 in Noble County south of US6.
ISP advised that motorists are urged to use caution when traveling during these high‑wind conditions. Strong gusts can make vehicle control difficult, especially for high‑profile vehicles, and may lead to sudden hazards on the roadway.
Drivers should:
Reduce speed in windy areas
Keep a safe distance from large trucks and high‑profile vehicles
Remain alert for debris or sudden traffic slowdowns
Avoid unnecessary travel if possible until conditions improve
Indiana State Police Troopers, along with local emergency responders, are working to clear scenes and restore normal traffic flow as quickly and safely as possible.
Details of the crashes have not been released.
