PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. – What started as a simple Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance inspection ended in the finding of a major stash of methamphetamine and the arrest of a trucker in Indiana on Saturday.
Indiana State Police (ISP) say at approximately 4:20 p.m., an Indiana State Police Trooper stopped a white Freightliner semi truck on Interstate 70 eastbound at the 41-mile marker for “a routine DOT compliance inspection.”
“During conversations with the driver, criminal indicators were observed and a probable cause search was conducted,” the release stated.
The search yielded 100 pounds of methamphetamine in the trailer along with a handgun in the cab of the truck.
The driver, Kemar Brown, age 33, of San Bernardino, Calif., was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail. He is facing charges of Dealing Methamphetamine, a level 2 felony, and Possession of Methamphetamine,a level 3 felony
The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is half a million dollars.
