Diesel fuel prices continue to rise.

The price for a gallon of diesel rose more than 24 cents per gallon from last week, according to the weekly report from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

A gallon of diesel cost $5.643 this week compared to $5.401 which was a modest increase from the week before.

Every reporting region registered an increase in price, several by more than 30 cents per gallon.

The largest increase, as has been the case in many weeks, came from the California region which rose from $7.219 to $7.567, a nearly 35-cent increase.

Global leaders have been scrambling to contain the rising cost of oil and gasoline since the start of the Iran war, which took a record amount of oil off the market when tankers full of crude were stranded in the Persian Gulf and military strikes damaged refineries, pipelines and export terminals, according to an Associated Press report published on Tuesday.

The West Coast Region jumped from $6.596 to $6.924 while the West Coast less California report a rise from $6.056 to $6.366.

The price per gallon of diesel is a marked increase from the past two years at this time. The price is up by $2.004 from last year and up by $1.528 from two years ago.
