OAKLAND, Calif. — The Internet is abuzz over a viral video showing an 18-wheeler participating in a “sideshow” burnout event on Feb. 25 in Oakland.

A sideshow is an informal demonstration of automotive stunts now often held illegally in vacant lots and public intersections.

According to online news outlet SFist, the event happened under an Interstate 880 overpass.

A video of the event shows the big rig, hauling a shipping container, circling several times as a crowd cheers on the driver.

Oakland police issued a warning on Feb. 24 saying, “OPD will have additional resources on the streets this weekend for enforcement of illegal sideshow activity.”

On Twitter, police said that anyone taking part in illegal sideshows in Oakland will likely have their vehicle towed and seized with a 30-day hold.

The incident is under investigation.
