ISP says it conducted more than 6K inspections in 6 weeks

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) reported statistics for the first six weeks of 2026 in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

The scope of CVED’s responsibility includes enforcing both state and federal regulations on all commercial motor vehicles (CMV). Also Major tasks include conducting Safety Inspections, New Entrant Safety Audits, and Compliance Reviews to ensure compliance with equipment and hours-of-service regulations.

CVED is also tasked with enforcing Indiana’s size and weight laws and ensuring that commercial carriers are properly registered and paying their fair share of fuel tax dollars. Additionally, they assist in the investigation of commercial vehicle crashes (post-crash inspections) and manage the annual school bus inspection program.

CVED reported that from January 1 through February 14, 2026, ISP CVED accomplished the following:

Total CMV Inspections Completed – 6,455

Total Out of Service Drivers – 653
Total Out of Service Vehicles – 752
Total Number of Oversize Violations – 49
Total Number of Overweight Violations – 278
