A rolling closure was put in place on Interstate 80 by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) from Laramie to Sinclair on Wednesday after multiple crashes, including a large crash at mile marker 259 eastbound.
According to a post on its social media page, WHP reported that approximately 20 vehicles were involved, and two people had been evacuated by helicopter.
Other crashes happened along I-80 as well, including between mile markers 264-269.
There were no updated information as to the cause of the crashes or condition of the victims.
WHP reported Wednesday afternoon that crews “were working to ensure the safety of everyone involved, to clear the roads, and assess bridges for damage.”
“Roads have been very slick today, and while the ice is melting the roads are still seeing plenty of slick spots with strong winds, blowing snow and slush,” WHP stated.
Wyoming’s Department of Transportion’s 511 website, which tracks weather and road conditions stated much of Interstate 80 was “dry with dangerous wind,” and was a serious rollover risk.
