PENDLETON, Ind. – Friday was a day for a concentrated effort along Indiana’s busiest roadways.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) conducted a four-hour directed enforcement patrol focusing on distracted driving along Interstate 70, spanning the Indianapolis and Pendleton Districts.
On Saturday ISP issued via press release the results of that operation.
ISP said the patrol zone covered a significant portion of the interstate, from the 69-mile marker to the 156-mile marker near the Ohio and Indiana state line.
“During the enforcement detail, troopers focused on identifying and addressing unsafe driving behaviors, with particular emphasis on cell phone use while driving,” ISP’s release stated. “As a result of these proactive efforts, troopers made 153 traffic stops.
The results of thos stops included:
72 traffic citations.
4 telecommunication usage citations
4 telecommunication usage warnings
103 warnings issued.
5 criminal arrests.
Commercial motor vehicles (CMV) enforcement was also a key component of the operation, according to ISP.
ISP says it stopped 18 CMVs, conducted 16 inspections finding 45 violations. ISP says it issued nine citations and nine warnings.
“The Indiana State Police remains committed to ensuring the safety of all motorists through targeted enforcement and education,” the release stated. “Drivers are reminded to stay alert, avoid distractions, and focus solely on driving while traveling through Indiana.”
