WINDSOR, Ontario, Canada — The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) on March 11 announced toll rates for the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and Detroit. WDBA and Bridging North America (BNA) also launched “Breakaway,” a toll discount program for the bridge.

According to a statement released by WDBA, the Breakaway program makes travel faster and easier at the Gordie Howe International Bridge, with customers enjoying exclusive toll rate discounts and hassle-free payment. Motorists in vehicles equipped with Breakaway tags will drive to any open toll lane. In less than five seconds, charges will be attributed to their account, the boom will lift, and they will continue on their journey.

“Announcing our toll rates and launching Breakaway represent a significant step in preparing to open the Gordie Howe International Bridge to traffic,” said Chuck Andary, interim CEO and chief legal officer for the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority. “We’ve established a customer-focused toll program that helps travelers and businesses move goods, grow businesses, and cross the border toward their destination with flexibility and convenience.”

Commercial trucks, oversized vehicles and larger passenger vehicles will pay a standard toll of $8.75 USD/$12 CAD per axle; Breakaway rate is $6.90 USD/$9.60 CAD per axle (vehicles over 7.5 feet/2.3 meters in height will be charged by axle). Drivers of passenger vehicles will pay a standard toll of $5.75 USD/$8 CAD per crossing; Breakaway members will receive a 25% discount for rates of $4.35 USD/$6 CAD.

“As we complete testing and commissioning on the Gordie Howe International Bridge, the launch of toll rates and Breakaway marks another exciting step toward opening day in spring 2026,” said David Henderson, CEO of Bridging North America. “Just as crews are fine-tuning every detail of the project, we’re ensuring a smooth start for all travelers and delivering on our commitment of a modern and efficient border crossing.”

For now, the Breakaway program is open only to businesses; visit GordieHoweInternationalBridge.com to register. Breakaway accounts for personal users are expected to launch in the coming weeks.

Scheduled to open this spring, the Gordie Howe International Bridge provides a direct, highway-to-highway connection between Ontario’s Highway 401 and Michigan’s Interstate 75. The bridge, intended for both commercial and passenger vehicles, has six traffic lanes, 16 toll lanes, and 60 Canada and U.S. inspection lanes.
