A man was arrested on Wednesday morning after an Oklahoma State trooper stopped him for driving the wrong way on the interstate, and nearly crashing into several vehicles including an 18-wheeler.
According to a statement by the Oklahoma State Police (OSP) on its Facebook page, trooper was patrolling Oklahoma County when he observed a driver traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Interstate 35. The driver then entered the westbound Turner Turnpike going the wrong direction, forcing multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck, to swerve to avoid a collision.
The trooper cut across the grass to position himself to stop the driver, according to OSP, who stated that the driver continued down the turnpike before finally stopping.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence after testing revealed that his blood alcohol content was .21, more than twice the legal limit.
“Driving under the influence is a dangerous and selfish choice,” OSP stated. “Today there are more options than ever to get home safely. With the touch of a finger, you can have a rideshare arrive within minutes. Always plan ahead and never drive under the influence. Your life and the lives of others depend on it.”
