LAREDO, Texas — A news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection states its officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized narcotics valued at more than $1.3 million in two separate incidents, one involving a big rig.
“These two back-to-back seizures of hard narcotics demonstrate the unwavering resolve of our officers to keep dangerous drugs out of our communities,” said Port Director Alberto Flores. “Their professionalism and attention to detail are vital to our mission, and this accomplishment highlights the outstanding work being done every day at Laredo Port of Entry.”
The first seizure occurred on March 31 at the World Trade Bridge, when a CBP officer referred a 64-year-old male Mexican citizen driving a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of leather bags for further inspection. CBP said following a canine and nonintrusive inspection system examination, CBP officers discovered 49 packages containing a total of 112.47 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the trailer.
Those narcotics have a street value of $1,034,227.
The second seizure occurred on April 1 at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, when a CBP officer referred a 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by a 25-year-old male U.S. citizen with a 24-year-old female U.S. citizen passenger for further inspection. Following a canine and nonintrusive inspection system examination, CBP officers discovered 10 packages containing a total of 25.37 pounds of suspected cocaine within the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $338,808.
