Work continues to clean up train versus semi crash in Georgia

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A train versus tractor-trailer crash in Hall County, Ga., closed several crossings on Thursday, created an impact area of nearly a mile and a half, and is causing a massive cleanup of debris to include trees, train cars and a lowboy trailer.

In a press release posted to Facebook, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office stated that just after 11:30 a.m., a Norfolk Southern train struck a lowboy tractor-trailer on the tracks at Old Cornelia Highway at Yonah-Homer Road.

No injuries were reported. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is investigating the crash.

As a result of the accident, the following 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆:
• Main Street at 8th in Lula
• Old Cornelia Highway at Moccasin Gap Road
• Old Cornelia Highway at Barrett Road
• Old Cornelia Highway at Yonah-Homer Road
In addition, Old Cornelia Highway northbound has been closed to traffic at Mud Creek Road and Old Cornelia Highway southbound at the Habersham County line has been closed to traffic.

In updates throughout the day, Hall County authorities say the closings remain in effect as of 11 p.m. eastern time.

According to news reports from 11Alive, the lowboy was stuck on the tracks when it was struck by the train.
