The Trucker News Channel — Primetime Driver

In this episode, we cover a special thanks to truck drivers during the Primetime Emmy Awards and roughly 15,000 Volvo trucks are being recalled for a possible brake pedal malfunction. Plus, one lucky owner-operator recently received a brand-new rig in Landstar’s Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway along with the CAT Scale Rig of the Week.

Tucker Russ: Hey truckers, I’m Tucker. Truck drivers were given a special thanks during the primetime Emmy Awards earlier this month and roughly 15,000 Volvo trucks are being recalled for a possible break pedal malfunction. Plus one lucky owner operator recently received a brand new rig in Landstar’s Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway. That’s a look at the stories we’re covering along with our CAT Scale Rig of the Week on this edition of The Trucker News Channel.

Tucker Russ: Front line and essential workers were recognized during the 72nd annual primetime Emmy Awards broadcast earlier this month on ABC. Jacinda Duran, a third generation truck driver and a member of the Women in Trucking organization was given the opportunity to represent truck drivers and their impact on the country during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jacinda, who is known as Jacinda Lady Truck’n on social media, shared the screen with Jimmy Kimmel as she introduced the nominees for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie in front of her big rig. Uzo Aduba took home the award for a role in FX’s mini series Mrs. America.

Jacinda Duran: And now I’m proud to represent the ladies and honored to announce the nominees for outstanding supporting actress in a limited series or movie.

Tucker Russ: Roughly 15,000 Volvo trucks have been recalled due to a possible brake pedal malfunction. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, the die-cast pedal plate may break at one of its attachment points possibly resulting in the brake pedal dislodging and increasing the likelihood of a crash. The recall affects certain 2020 and 2021 VAH, VHD, VNL and VNR vehicles. Volvo trucks will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the pedal plates if required free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 30th.

CAT Scale Commercial: Time is money and CAT Scale can help your drivers save time weighing. Drivers know their axle and gross weights before pulling off the scale and CAT Scale weights are always guaranteed. Drivers get back on the road faster with the Weigh My Truck app from CAT Scale.

Tucker Russ: The Rig of the Week is going old school with Tom Millard’s 1955, 155 W Brockway. Nice rig. Originally the truck was equipped with a Continental six cylinder flathead motor, a five speed 58430 overdrive Fuller transmission, and an Eaton 20503 two speed rear end. Tom replaced the Continental with a 5.9 Cummins motor from a 95 Ford F800, but it’s still rolling with the other parts. The cab has been sound dampened and now has air ride seats. Nice seats. The truck has been driven more than 10,000 miles since its restoration. Although there is plenty to be proud of with this antique duty, Tom’s favorite thing about the truck is that he was able to restore it with the help of his dad who was also a truck driver. If you have a rig you’d like to profile here on the CAT Scale Rig of the Week, send us a video at [email protected]. Nice rig.

Tucker Russ: Steve Wheeler of Greenville, North Carolina is the proud owner of a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. Steve, an independent owner operator for Landstar, was the winner of the 2020 Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway sponsored by Comdata. Wheeler was one of four finalists who were selected at random from nearly 10,000 of Landstar’s owner operators. The giveaway took place during a live Zoom meeting during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. During the virtual event, each finalist selected one of four boxes and one contained a winning notification. Steve guessed correctly to win a pearl blue Cascadia. He said, “I’ve never been lucky in my life and you have to be incredibly lucky when your name is picked out of 10,000.” That’s right Steve, congratulations man.
